Witch Cantrips

Witch Cantrips

Cantrips are minor spells, much like a huckster's tricks. Their effects tend to be very minor, though they don't usually require hard to obtain components. To use a cantrip, a witch simply makes the required Witchcraft roll. All cantrips are Speed 1 and require no components unless otherwise noted. If the cantrip does require components, the time to Scrounge them up is only 10 minutes per Scroungin' TN point (ie, TN 5 is 50 minutes, not 5 hours).

Cantrips are easy to learn. A witch can spend 5 bounty points to learn any three cantrips. They require no books or special study; they're simple enough that a witch can figure them out on their own.

Bandage (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3
Components: Something to function as a bandage (torn cloth, etc)
Scroungin': 3

This cantrip quickly bandages up a bleeding target, instantly stopping all bleeding (it does not actually heal wounds, however). The witch must have something to function as a bandage, such as torn cloth or real bandages. Further wounding causes Wind loss as normal.

Beggar's Banquet (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3

Beggar's Banquet can make an item taste like anything the witch desires. It doesn't alter nutritional content, but it can make plain oatmeal taste like a fine steak.

Calm Rest
TN: 3

Calm Rest allows the witch to grant a night of peaceful sleep to someone. The witch must hum a lullaby, give the target some tea, or otherwise do something to help the person relax. Unfortunately, those with full-blown Night Terrors aren't off the hook with this cantrip; the manitous that drag the character kicking and screaming into the land of nightmares can easily overcome this cantrip, though the character does get a +1 bonus to the Spirit roll to avoid losing a fate chip.

Copy (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3
Components: Paper
Scroungin': 3

This cantrip makes a rough copy of one page of information. The page could be a typed page or a picture, but the Copy is rough and easily recognizable as a fake. It can be useful for quickly copying a map or notes, though.

False Face (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3

This cantrip allows a witch to change a few simple elements of their appearance — hair/eye color, adding/removing facial hair, or changing hair length and/or style. If used with Disguise, it grants a +2 bonus to the check. It isn't enough to fool a dedicated observer, but might work at a casual glance.

Finger of Fire
TN: 3

Finger of Fire lets a witch project a gout of flame from her hand up to one yard long (it can be shorter if desired). It's great for lighting torches, fuses, and such, though it's not constant like a flamethrower; it's more like a quick poof. When used in combat, it does a measly 1d6 fire damage (use the Witchcraft roll to check for a hit).

Forecast (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3

Forecast allows the witch to sense what the weather will be like for the next few hours (hours = Cognition die type). The information provided is very general, and it can't predict weather caused by arcane means.

Groom (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3

Groom allows a witch to quickly fix her appearance in a hurry. It can remove dirt and grime, shine shoes, brush hair (though not shave or cut hair), and other such things.

Minor Talisman of Health
TN: 3
Components: A few drops of the witch's blood, something to function as a talisman
Scroungin': 3

This cantrip creates a minor talisman that aids in natural healing. If a character is making a natural healing roll or roll to resist the effects of disease and is in possession of a talisman created by this spell, they get a +1 bonus on the Vigor roll. It lasts for one week, then the magic fades.

Will o' the Wisp (Converted Huckster Trick)
TN: 3

Will o' the Wisp conjures a dim light. It's about as bright as a typical chemical glowstick and must be held and moved by hand. Reading is only possible if the text is large or if the witch has some other means of seeing in dim light. A witch can only have one Will o' the Wisp active at once; creating another causes the first to wink out. It lasts for one hour.
